The Ethical Approach is to focus on our dogs internal state, how they feel, their physical and mental health and wellness, whilst learning and understanding more about how dogs would act naturally, dog communication and body language, how they interact with eachother and how we can learn from this through observing and encouraging our dogs to engage in their natural behaviors. Within our approach we manage the environments around our dog, ensuring they are feeling safe and comfortable at home and getting adequate rest, aswell as being careful to ensure that any environments outside the home that we explore with our dogs are suitable for that particular dogs individual needs. We redcuce stress and tension within our dogs lives, their mind and their body. And encourage healthy social relationships and interactions and play, with other dogs and other species.

Here at Ethical Dog we work with both pet dogs and assistance dogs for disabilities, using The Ethical Approach. We are currently working with a fantastic local company Wuffable, to create branded Ethical Dog gear for our Assistance Dog Programme.

Wuffable design and manufacture the best quality customised working dog gear, right here on the edge of Cannock Chase. With the help of Liz from Wuffable we have designed the most lightweight comfortable vest, to be worn by the dogs alongside their back clip Y front harness for freedom of movement and a healthy natural gait. Also lead slips and bandanas for our dogs as an alternative option, again to ensure comfort and freedom of movement to keep our dogs physically fit and healthy whilst working.

Our assistance dog programme based on The Ethical Approach we teach skills such as gentle loose lead walking and relaxed settles, whilst focusing on emotions, building confidence, healthy social relationships, independence from the handler, resilience and optimal health in our dogs.

Our dogs only work part time in limited suitable environments and at home, and are required to spend the majority of their routine enjoying engaging in natural dog behaviours from sniffing, searching and exploring to digging, chewing and playing with other dogs. Our Assistance Dog Programme is designed as an educational programme for people to learn more about dog ethology, physiology and behaviour and enjoy the journey of learning from their dog, instead of teaching things to the dog. We have a lovely kind community, flexible learning both in person and online and the opportunity for social meet ups.
